This meeting of the Association was held at the Kelham Island Museum, Alma Street, Sheffield S3 8RY.   The meeting started at 10.30 in the Douglas Centre and was followed by a hot buffet lunch in the cafeteria.  At 2 pm the members witnessed the operation of the Don Steam Engine, said to be the largest in Europe still in working condition.  The experience was thrilling for all present.  It was part of a guided tour run by the Museum and covered mainly the development of the steel industry in Sheffield.  Other interesting exhibits were the  Bessemer converter for making steel and also a Grand Slam Bomb, known as the Barnes Wallis Bouncing Bomb and at 10 tons the heaviest bomb ever made.
