FRIDAY 7 OCTOBER 2011
This was held at The Hilton Hotel, Nottingham, NG1 3PZ. There were 18 guests who attended this EIA complimentary function. The dinner was preceded by an entertaining presentation on the darker side of Nottingham’s colourful history. It was not only informative in a gruesome manner but was delivered in an amusing way. One guest was fortunately on hand to correct the historical data.
On Saturday 8th October, a tour on Nottingham had been arranged. The drizzling conditions outside did not deter the guests nor reduce the enjoyment from a fascinating tour of the city. The excellent guide corrected several misconceptions about the castle and Robin Hood at the same time as informing the gathered company of events surrounding the arrest of Charles I and the introduction of celery to the UK. The tour lasted for 90 minutes and finished at The Salutation Inn, which was not only the oldest pub in town but was conveniently above the most haunted caves in Nottingham. A drink in the snug was a good way to end the event.
