A Forum in which member companies can exchange views on matters of mutual interest

FRIDAY 19th APRIL 2013

The EIA held its Annual General Meeting at the Thistle Hotel, Haydock Park commencing at 2.30 pm. After the meeting, a presentation was given by Mr John Young, from the Bank of England. John is the North West Agent for the B of E and takes a particular interest in the state of trade of companies. He listened to the views of EIA Members and their plans for the forthcoming months, data he will use in a financial model covering companies with whom he is in contact. In this way he can present a picture of the North West economy to the B of E. His presentation was a remarkably candid reflection on the role of the BoE, its successes and failures and the state of the UK economy. He was able to make an apparently dry subject into a stimulating revelation. It was followed by a long period of questions which had to be terminated when the need for refreshments became irresistible. Later, he joined the Members for the evening dinner which was, as usual, a complimentary event paid for by the Association. Overnight accommodation for Members was also paid for by the EIA.. In keeping with previous years, the EIA Annual Golf Competition was held on the same day at the Ashton-in-Makerfield Golf Club with the first tee at 7.30 am. All green fees were paid by the Association. The individual competition for the Eddie Porter Shield was won for the third year in succession by Mr Todd Littlehales.
