The Electrical Insulation Association UK

A Forum in which member companies can exchange views on matters of mutual interest

The January 2025 meeting of the EIA was held at Cromford Mills, the birthplace of the modern factory system. After an interesting meeting and buffet lunch, members join a very informative tour of the Mills which are today maintained by the charitable Arkwright Society, formed to revive and expand the legacy of Sir Richard Arkwright and his fascination with innovation, industry and education.

Interesting throughout, the group were most captivated by the water wheel, expertly captured by member Lee Parnell from Langtec Ltd, which dates back to 1771. Once driving the factories, alongside it now sits a new water wheel powering a 17kWh hydro turbine and water source heating system to power the site.
