General Meeting September 2019

The second general meeting of 2019 was held and it was afloat for the first time.
Members boarded the River King Cruiser on the river Ouse for the meeting followed by lunch and a narrated sightseeing cruise.
It is clear however that the main goal of the meeting was met with the secretary receiving very positive feedback that the environment provided the ideal setting for networking

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING AT THE MERCURE HAYDOCK HOTEL 2019

The 2019 AnnualGeneral Meeting was held on 12th April at the The Mercure Hotel Haydock.

8 members opted to start the day early, competing for the Eddie Porter Trophy in the Associations annual golf competition. Favoured by a cold but sunny morning the competition was played in the proper manner and enjoyed by all.

The Eddie Porter Trophy was later presented by Chairman, Andrew Turner, at the meeting.

The business of the meeting was followed by a very interesting and enthusiastic presentation of the Tom Eland Memorial Lecture by Heather Wright of Advance Performance. Heather has spoken around the word to major multi national organisations and the EIA are grateful for her agreeing to speak to us.

General Meeting at The Oaks Hotel Burnley

The General Meeting held on 23rd January 2019 at the The Oaks Hotel Burnley was followed by a visit to Safran Nacelles in Burnley.

The meeting was well attended, no doubt drawn by the prospect a renowned speaker on the subject of engagement and what was an excellent visit, which followed lunch in Bertrams restaurant.

EIA GENERAL MEETING AT THE NATIONAL COAL MINING MUSEUM, WAKEFIELD

26 September 2018 at 10.30 am

The meeting will take place in the Prince of Wales Room at the National Coal Mining Museum, Overton, Wakefield WF4 4RH.   Refreshments will be available from 10 am onwards.  A hot lunch will be served followed by desert and tea or coffee, from 12.30 pm. 
After lunch members will listen to a talk given by one of the mining engineers followed by an underground tour in two groups, lasting approximately one hour, as well as surface exhibitions.

EIA GENERAL MEETING AT THE LOWRY, SALFORD QUAYS

24 January 2018 at 10.30 am

The meeting will take place in the Hexagon Room The Lowry, Pier 8 Salford Quays, M50 3AZ.
Refreshments will be available from 10 am onwards.  A hot fork buffet lunch will be served followed by desert and tea or coffee, from 12.30 pm.
Members can spend time in the afternoon exploring the Lowry Arts and Entertainment Centre

Holiday Inn and Veolia

On 27th Septemeber 2017 the EIA held their Autumn meeting in the Salmon Suite of the Holiday Inn Birmingham North, Cannock, followed by a hot buffet lunch served in the hotel restaurant.  The meeting was well attended and there was good participation in a full agenda.

Following the meeting, members transferred to the Veolia waste recycling power plant for what proved to be a very interesting and informative meeting.

Veolia Environmental Services opened this 26 MW waste to energy facility in May 2014.  It will process around 300,000 tonnes of residual waste each year in Staffordshire.  The facility was developed as a part of Staffordshire County Council’s target of sending zero waste to landfill, while maximising recycling.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING AT THE MERCURE HAYDOCK HOTEL

FRIDAY 21st APRIL 2017

The EIA held its Annual General Meeting at the Mercure Haydock Hotel, Haydock Park.   Presentation of the Eddie Porter Shield was made for a consecutive year to Paul Mullins, who won the EIA Annual Golf Competition in the morning at the Ashton-in-Makerfield Golf Club. Other winners were Nearest the pin – Rickie Moore and theTeam Prize – Steve Nolan, Michael Aaron, Neil Priest, Lee Buckley.

The meeting concluded with the Tom Eland Memorial Lecture which this year was given by Guest speaker John Young.  John is responsible for assessing and reporting back to the Bank of England on business and the economy in the North West. John spoke informatively and with some humour about recent economic factors, explaining how forecasts and decisions on interest rates were made   A complimentary bar tab opened at 6 pm and dinner was served in the hotel restaurant at 7 pm.  As usual, the dinner, drinks and overnight accommodation on a B&B basis were paid for by the EIA up to a maximum of two representatives from each Member company.

EIA GENERAL MEETING AT ROCESTER & JCB FACTORY TOUR

A meeting of the EIA at a hotel near Rocester, Staffordshire, is to be arranged with lunch included. It will be followed in the afternoon by a guided tour of the nearby JC B factory. The visit cannot be arranged until 3 months beforehand and so at present it is unconfirmed. J.C. Bamford Excavators Limited, universally known as JCB, is a British multinational corporation, with headquarters in Rocester, Staffordshire, manufacturing equipment for construction, agriculture, waste handling and demolition. It is the world’s third-largest construction equipment manufacturer and produces over 300 types of machines, including diggers (backhoes), excavators, tractors and diesel engines. It has 22 factories across Asia, Europe, North America, and South America and its products are sold in over 150 countries.

GENERAL MEETING AT THE NATIONAL SPACE CENTRE, LEICESTER

WEDNESDAY 28TH SEPTEMBER 2016

This meeting has been arranged to take place in the Shuttle Suite at The National Space Centre, Exploration Drive, Leicester LE4 5NS. The Centre is on the North side of the city.  Registration will be at the front desk of the museum where staff will be prepared for your visit.    The meeting will start at 10.30 am with refreshments available from 10 am.  At 12.45 pm a lunch will be served in the same room.

Delegates will be welcome to tour the museum from 13.30 onwards with no extra charge.  Visit the 3 story 42 m tall Rocket Tower and the themed galleries displaying rockets, satellites and interactive exhibitions about space travel.

GENERAL MEETING AT THE NATIONAL MOTORCYCLE MUSEUM, SOLIHULL

WEDNESDAY 27th JANUARY 2016

The National Motorcycle Museum is close to Junction 6 of the M6, at which point, visitors should leave the motorway and follow the signs to the Museum (B92 0EJ). Car parking is free.

The meeting will start at 10.30 am in the Balcony Suite which is on the upper floor. On arrival, delegates will be offered refreshments and after the meeting is concluded at about 12.45, there will be a hot buffet lunch provided in the same room. At the end of the lunch, delegates will be free to tour the museum where some 850 motorcycles are on display. All costs will be met by the Association.
